About this Blog

To us, spirituality is a practical, everyday experience of ourselves as spiritual beings, living in a physical body in a physical world. We live from the viewpoint of spirit. It’s a different orientation to life than thinking one is a mind or is a body.

For a long time Debra had been wanting to communicate about being a spirit. As someone who is aware and able as a spiritual being, she wanted to live in a world where spiritual awareness and abilities can be openly acknowledged, admired, and used as part of everyday life.

We recently discovered a fabulous new website and want to share it with you! We know you’ll enjoy Signs of spirit as much as we have. – www.soulfulliving.com

The Power of Stories

In 2005, Debra started writing little stories about her own experience as a being of spirit. At first, they weren’t very good. But as she kept at it, they got better and better. She began to read them to friends, who loved them.

But then she noticed an interesting thing. The more she wrote stories acknowledging her own spirit awareness and ability, the more her spirit awareness and ability expanded! And she became more willing and able to communicate about spirit with others. Then she asked her husband Larry to write a story, and one morning he did. The whole rest of the day he was very creative and productive, so significantly so that she asked him what was going on. He said, “Starting my day writing that story about my spirit abilities really made a difference in how I approached the whole day.” Then the doorbell rang and a man asked if he could buy an old Volkswagon that we had sitting on the driveway. Larry had been intending to sell the car, but had not advertised it at all–not even a sign in the window.

Thank you so much for doing this newsletter and sharing it with me. I have only just read the introduction and already I have certainty that this is going to be so good for me and everyone I know. Just reading the introduction lifted me a great deal.  I have long been feeling the need for just this newsletter of yours.  So much of  what’s going on in the world is pretty awful stuff–this is exactly what I ‘ve been needing for balance, uplift, and hope. I just love you for doing this. You are such a treasure, and I know this newsletter will be too. – HJM

It’s clear that there is something important about acknowledging and admiring spiritual awareness and ability–both in ourselves and others–that increases spiritual awareness and ability. And so, I started a newsletter and website to be a place where spirits could share their stories about what life is like when spirit awareness and abilities are used, and to express spirit viewpoints. As Larry began to write stories too, we started to edit the newsletter together. We published this newsletter and website for about a year in 2005-2006, and, as it expanded to over 200 stories by more than 40 different writers, we found we needed to take a break to reorganize how we were doing this. This blog is the renaissance of that earlier endeavor.

Doing this project as a couple is a wonderful way for us to communicate about spirit between ourselves and with others. Our intent is for these stories to both increase our own spirit awareness and abilities and to inspire others to reach for their own spirit awareness and abilities as well. As spirits, we know that what we put our attention on increases in the world. And so, we are putting our attention on communicating as spirits.

I loved this first edition. Each of the three stories about being a spirit are truly “amazing” and so uniquely different just as spirits are. I look forward to receiving each edition and will, I am sure, read each one several times, just as I have with this one. It is curious that I have been wishing lately that I could share my ’signs of spirit’, some of them quite remarkable and others which have left me in awe. I imagine you will have many fellow contributors and a wonderfully uplifting publication that will be acknowledged world-wide, and we surely need that don’t we? – VH

spirituality, Not Religion

These stories are about one’s own natural spirituality, not about religion. Even if there were no religion in the world, we would still be spirits, we would still have minds, and we would still inhabit bodies.

Our aim is not to promote a specific religious viewpoint, but rather to celebrate the spiritual nature that exists as the center of each of our lives. Whatever religion we may choose, each one of us eventually comes to be aware of our own spiritual nature. It is that spirit which these stories celebrate.

I first just wanted to thank you very much for doing this, My very dream has being to find something exactly like this. I’m thrilled that you are making this happen. I think it is brilliant and I have sent links to your web site to all my very spiritually minded friends, who are also very respectful of all religious beliefs and views, so I know they will love it. It is just such good news that this is here now, a dream come true!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you. From the bottom of my heart. – D. R.

Why We Are Offering These spirit Stories

We love these stories! We think they are the best stories around–all the more so because they are real.

Though the idea that we are spirits is not widely known or acknowledged in our modern society, many, many people throughout the world are aware they are beings of spirit and quietly live with a spiritual orientation as the basis of their lives. Throughout the ages the idea that spirit exists in the world has been accepted more often than not, by peoples  of every continent, throughout most of history.

We want the spiritual aspects of life to be more widely known and accessable to all. Offering these stories about being spirits is our way of opening more communication on this subject.
