A Direct Line

The idea of being able to communicate telepathically, that is, spirit-to-spirt without physical means, is something that is very real to me. Of course, we all communicate without words with each other every day with a look or a touch, but beyond that we can communicate across distance without telephones or get someone’s attention even if they aren’t looking our way.

The first telepathic experience I can recall occurred when I was about eight years old.

My mother was very close to her mother, but we lived quite a distance apart. They would write letters to each other almost every day, and every month or two our family would make the four-hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area to Fresno, California to visit grandma.

My mother always called my grandmother to tell her we were leaving and when she should expect us. On one particular trip, some delay occurred, and we were behind schedule.

When we arrived about an hour after our estimated time, my mother apologized for being late and not calling.

“Oh, I knew you would be late,” said my grandmother. “Debbie called and told me.”

My grandmother said the phone physically rang, she answered it, and physically heard my voice and talked with me. I was in the car with my parents and had not come near a phone.

Many years later I had a telepathic experience that surprised and delighted me–because this time, I had intentionally communicated spirit-to-spirit and the communication was received and acknowledged.

My husband and I were driving down Hayes Street in San Francisco one morning on our way to breakfast, and we stopped at an intersection for a red light. A young mother crossed in the crosswalk with her baby in a stroller. He caught my attention as they passed, wearing a bright, multicolored sweater with matching cap. Though his face was turned away from me, I felt there was a connection of attention with him, and so I silently said, “Hi, baby!”

It didn’t take longer than one second for him to turn his head in my direction. Then he gave me a big smile and waved! Directly to me. Even though I was in a car, behind the windshield, about a dozen feet away.

I have not experienced anything like this but I like knowing it is possible. Thank you.
